Angelesen #27

_DSC7926

The 25 Most Popular Passwords of 2015 (gizmodo.com)

Every year, SplashData complies a list of the millions of stolen passwords made public throughout the last twelve months, then sorts them in order of popularity. This year the results, based on a total of over 2 million leaked passwords, are not the list of random alpha-numeric characters you might hope for. Rather, they’re a lesson in exactly how not to choose a password.

Die 25 meist benutzten Passwörter des Jahres 2015.

New AI algorithms beat CAPTCHA tests 90% of the time (gizmag.com)

To put the success rate into perspective, Vicarious cites a 2011 paper out of Stanford, which deemed a CAPTCHA system “broken when the attacker is able to reach a precision of at least 1 percent.”

Is Self Hosted Blogging Dead? (robertnealan.com)

So maybe Ghost isn’t your jam, and that’s okay. That’s the beauty of self-hosting your own blog, there’s so many options out there! Things like WordPress, Jekyll, Middleman, Octopress, AnchorCMS, PicoCMS, Dropplets, takes breath …and at least hundred others are free and available for you to use, customize, update (or not), etc at your own choosing. That’s the beauty of having control over your own writing — the Ghost community might opt to add or remove a feature I disagree with, at which point I have full control to not update to the newest version and plan a transition to a different platform that fits my needs.

Jonathan la Cour – Making Slack Night Mode (blog.lacour.me)

It’s no longer necessary to have tabs open for each of these services while developing, as any relevant information is sent to Slack. But, there is still one issue that many people face with Slack: its lack of a night mode/dark theme.

Microsoft silenty adds Amazon root certificates to its CTL · HA (hexatomium.github.io)

Microsoft has just pushed a new CTL update with 6 new root certificates, 4 of which are for a brand new root CA: Amazon. This conveniently occurs just in time for Amazon’s Certificate Services go-live. But what should be a fairly ordinary update is raising a few red flags.

Klammheimlich hat Microsoft neue Root CAs ausgerollt.

Announcing sshexport (esr.ibiblio.org)

The tool was, until yesterday, named ssh-installkeys. It’s a script wrapper written in Python that uses a Python expect engine to login into remote sites and install (or remove) ssh public keys. What makes it useful is that it remembers a lot of annoying details like fixing file and directory permissions so your ssh server won’t see a potential vulnerability and complain. Also, unlike some competing tools, it only requires you to enter your password once per update.

Working hard means I am stupid. Because I am not stopping and finding ways to work smarter.
Working hard is selfish. For I am robbing my family and friends from my presence, love and attention.

True true.

A World without Work? (weforum.org)

Is there a new planet in the solar system? (economist.com)

Ironically, it was Dr Brown as much as anyone who was responsible for Pluto’s downgrading, for he discovered Eris, an object almost as big as Pluto, in 2005. That discovery did much to damage Pluto’s planetary credentials. By his own admission, he was sceptical that the anomalies he and Dr Batygin have investigated actually would point to the existence of a replacement ninth planet. He is a sceptic no longer. Whether he is actually right may soon become apparent.

Whait what?

Where have I been in 2015 (habi.gna.ch)

I tracked my location data with OpenPaths since the beginning of 2014.
OpenPaths comes as an application for your phone, which tracks its location, uploads it to the OpenPath servers.

Yay!

strftime (DateTime) (apidock.com)
